A great village pub that everyone in the area recommends before any other place.

As well as a good range of beers and wines (well looked after) The Star serves excellent pub grub. Gary, the chef, handles the cooking on his own and by his own admission serves "farmers portions". Gary sources locally as much as possible so you know you are getting good, fresh food.

The staff and regular customers are very welcoming and its easy to strike up a conversation in the bar as we have whenever we've been there, including with Gary.

I can recommend the fish and chips and my eldest daughter enjoys the vegetarian options.

At certain times the Star can be very popular so if you are thinking of eating on a Friday or Saturday evening or maybe Sunday lunchtime I recommend that you book ahead just to be sure (last December we couldn't get in despite booking more than a week ahead for a Friday evening). Weekday lunchtimes aren't a problem but check their website or phone them to check if they are serving food that day (no food on Mondays).

We had a meal here with some good friends one evening. The Swan definitely leans towards fine dining and the bill will reflect this (we paid £50 per head including wine). The food met expectations and was of a high quality and for us, over the three courses, there was definitely the right amount. The three course menus of the day are probably the best value for either lunch or dinner. Maybe a special occasion venue for most of us but be assured that you'll enjoy it.

Accolades include Michelin Bib Gourmand for the past three years, two AA rosettes and regional winner in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015 awards.

Great cafe for breakfasts, lunches, coffee, afternoon tea and even fish and chips on Thursday and Friday evenings (until 7pm). Only a few minutes away and with a car park across the road where you can park, have that early morning walk on the beach and then come back to the cafe for breakfast or just a coffee.

On warmer days there is an outside area where its very pleasant to sit and get some rays, on rainy days there is a good indoor space with floor to ceiling glass on one side.

On Thursday and Friday evenings (open until 7pm) they serve a fish and chip menu and having tried it, I can heartily recommend it.

Another good village pub serving decent pub grub and serving vegetarian and gluten-free meals too. Friendly staff and management.

Just re-opened this year after having been enlarged and with a great ethos of serving good, locally sourced food and great quality booze with a plethora of ales including many sourced from across Norfolk. If you can't make up your mind they will serve you a "flight of ales" - 3 thirds of a pint of different beers. A few minutes from here is a car park from which you can take a short stroll to the Barton Broad boardwalk. Maybe do that first to work up a thirst before the pub.

Later this year they should start brewing their own ales.

We went to a mini beer festival with a barbecue this August (2014) and had a great time.

A community shop which also doubles up as a cafe. The produce is as local as they can make it and that includes the cakes!

Winterton Dunes Beach Cafe

One of our favourites for a cooked breakfast or lunch by the beach. The dunes at Winterton are well worth seeing and walking through. There is a private car park by the cafe that charges less than many of the municipal car parks for longer periods. Although relatively close to Great Yarmouth, Winterton is a world away and far more relaxing.
